Indeed, this moon carries the signature of Snake—the animal totem representing the ability within each of us to transmute poisons, shed old skin, and embrace rebirth.
The Greek myth associated with Scorpio is the story of Persephone. Long story, short, Persephone, the daughter of Demeter and Zeus was kidnapped by Hades (or Pluto, Scorpio’s ruling planet) to become his bride in the underworld. Her mother was bereft by the loss of her daughter and begged Zeus to make amends. So the agreement was that Persephone was liberated from the underworld in Spring and Summer, and then to return in Fall and Winter.
The theme of this Scorpion story, is that we all may need be necessarily “kidnapped” into our underworld, the dark reaches of our being and the unknown. And by willing do so, to surrender into our darkness, our shadow, there’s amazing transformation and will come. This New Moon is sure to be intense, and taking time for ritual, communion and intention can be especially powerful now!
