Meet Death! Time to Transform!
Tarot Tuesday! The card for the week is Death, representing: Endings, transformation, liberation, surrender, and internal change. Meet Death. What’s your first instinct? Fear, anger, denial, barraging…acceptance? Death’s head is a clock, representing Kronos or Father Time. Like a dark angel, Death always hovers, an indication of the ephemeral nature of life, reminding us that the proverbial clock is always ticking.
The Tarot’s Death rarely indicates one of a physical nature. Ruled by the deep and watery sign of Scorpio, this transformation is usually more internal, that of a spiritual, emotional and psychological nature. This may include the death of old habits, compulsions, attachments and desires that negatively affect the quality of your day-to-day life. Basically, anything that you need to give a timely death to in order to freely flourish.
Embracing Death can give greater meaning to our lives. It liberates us. For if you fear death, you cannot be present to living your life to the fullest. There is profound transformation, and awakening in the willingness to let go.
The French term la petite mort or “little death”, defined as a brief loss of consciousness, is associated with the sensation of sexual orgasm, or going to sleep. In the highest sense, both are a state of releasing control. A reminder that we all die a little bit every day. Finally, (pun intended) I leave you with this quote by ancient Zen Master Bunan: “Die while you are alive and be absolutely dead. Then flow with whatever happens: it’s all Source.”
Wishing you a transformative week!
