Tips For Your 2024 Vision Board

Every new year I like to create a vision board for myself to help inspire the year ahead. You’ve heard of a vision board, right? They were super in-vogue awhile ago, but often fall into the new-agey, woo-woo category. Actually, creating a vision board, or what I like to call a “soul collage”, can be a sacred and magical experience.

The purpose of a vision board is to stimulate your imagination and deeper mind. Usually done through a process of collaging images together, it allows you to play with different imagery as a way of envisioning what your future may look like. If we take it one step further, into the idea of a soul collage, it is an opportunity for your deeper self to talk to you about its secret longings, desires and potential manifestations.

When I work on a vision collage :) I start by going through the magazines I have on hand. Full transparency: as a collage artist namely using images from fashion magazines (hence the Couture Tarot and Angels), I always have a lot of magazines around! I give my self permission to cutout or tear the images that speak to me. Without editing or an idea about how they may work together.

Color is huge part of my process. I often start with images that fit into a color scheme that inspires me. For example, in my vision board for 2024 (pictured here), I was drawn towards pinks, greens and yellows. Then, with an array of images before me, I start to piece them together. I create all of my collages on cardboard. It goes back to when I was first creating the images for my Couture Tarot deck. I didn’t have any posterboard or art paper, so I used the cardboard from packing boxes. Cardboard makes me feel grounded and happy.

As I play around with the images, often a story begins to unfold. It may even be somewhat unexpected—which is part of the beauty of this process!—and I try and go with it and see where it takes me. I suggest using purple Elmers Glue Stick because it ‘s the most forgiving of glue sticks when it comes to pasting, then moving images around.

This is the moment to open your mind to higher inspiration. Don’t be in a hurry to “make everything work”. Give it some time to breathe. In the best sense the journey of creating your vision collage can be a profound and enlightening process. One that may require time and attention, even multiple visits.

I call my vision collage for 2024—Mona Lisa in Wonderland! I had no idea what would come out of the process this year. Although you may have a theme or intention in mind when you create your vision board, you can also allow the process to show you what you may not be aware of. I went in with a open mind, and have to say: Wow! Mona Lisa in Wonderland reflects so much of what’s going on with me, even bringing to light some inner dreams and (past life?) memories. It was like I created the vision, but I didn’t? Ahhh, the beauty of letting your soul speak!

I can’t encourage you enough to make your own vision collage for 2024. I know you will be amazed by the process, and possibly transformed.

Here’s some tips for creating your vision board:

  1. Before you begin, take a moment and set the energy. Light some candles, meditate, breathe and call in your higher self and energies.

  2. A great way to start is to ask yourself: What inspires me now? Or What do I want to manifest next?

  3. Don’t censor. Play. Give yourself permission to choose whatever images speak to you.

  4. Don’t rush. Take your time.

  5. *Be aware of colors or images that seem to want to come together in a theme.

  6. Move things around. Be willing to try different things. If it doesn’t work, you can edit it later. (Which I so often do! I start with everything-but-the kitchen-sink, then whittle it down as I focus and the inspiration becomes clearer.)

  7. Finally—have fun! Give your imagination free reign to explore. Don’t limit your possibilities!
