The Lovers ~ Mirrors to our Souls
Tarot Tuesday! The card for the week is the Lovers, representing: Discernment, choice, commitment and learning. Alas, this card is not about romance. It represents a relationship crossroads, after the proverbial honeymoon, after the emotional high of romantic love settles and quiets. It is a time when you are making choices about the future through your relationships, knowing that the road you choose will greatly define your next chapter.
The Lovers is inspired by the biblical lovers Adam and Eve. You know the story: Eve, enticed by the serpent, ate the apple from the Tree of Knowledge, realized she was naked, and she and Adam were cast out of Eden (paradise). The desire for knowledge, an awakening of one’s higher self, is a powerful thing. It also strips away illusions and puts us squarely in the face of our own selves. Our lovers are often mirrors to this awakening.
Ruled by the intellectual sign of Gemini, the Lovers encourages discernment. As much as your heart may long for someone or something, this is a time to listen to your head instead. In the Lovers, innocence and lust gives way to reason and responsibility. This card asks: Are you ready to commit: Body, Mind and Soul? For better or for worse?
The Lovers symbolizes the Alchemical marriage, the union of opposites, between the feminine and masculine, Yin and Yang, traits within ourselves. Ultimately, the Lovers represents finding wholeness within. As it is truly said: you can only love another as much as love yourself.
